MBW’s ERGO-TAMP Pneumatic Tamper – Features and Benefits for the User

MBW’s ERGO-TAMP Pneumatic Tamper – Features and Benefits for the User

One of the most physically rough and demanding tools in the construction industry – the pneumatic tamper – produces arm and hand vibration levels that are among the highest in the industry. Fortunately, modifications have been made to MBW’s previous pneumatic tamper’s design, reducing its physical impact upon the user. This is important because routine exposure to high levels of vibration is known to contribute to the formation of carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, white finger, and other chronic ailments. At EGW Gas Solutions, we offer the ERGO-TAMP™, a pneumatic tamper that provides exceptional operational and comfort benefits to the user.

Some of the tampers available in the construction equipment marketplace are designed exclusively for ramming sand, and as a result, do not have the total power required for contracting applications. However, this is not the case with the ERGO-TAMP™.

The ERGO-TAMP™

The ERGO-TAMP™ decreases the level of arm/hand vibration by as much as 70%, with a certain amount of variation based on compaction conditions. This pneumatic tamper consists of a vibration absorption system that easily accommodates the amplitude levels typically delivered by pneumatic tampers. The device is also cooled by a continual supply of compressed air flowing through the mechanism.

The appearance of this updated tamper by MBW is different from the previous version. This device consists mostly of aluminum, which has reduced its weight by 10.5 pounds. It is also taller than the previous model, allowing for increased versatility.

With a pneumatic tamper that is tolerable to use in terms of impact upon the human body, users are less likely to cut compaction operations short before achieving an acceptable geotechnical outcome. Enhanced compaction capabilities result in a lower occurrence of pavement failure. With this improved device, there is less arm/hand vibration and wear and tear on workers attempting to complete their compaction tasks.

The ERGO-TAMP™ has a 6 inch (15.2 cm) foot diameter and a 74 inches (188 cm) length. The device has an operating weight of 37.5 pounds (17 kg) and delivers a maximum of 800 blows per minute.

An optional trigger guard is also available with the MBW ERGO-TAMP™ to prevent accidental tool activation.
